Bearded Brothers, the epic
Posted on March 22nd, 2011Wow, this whole startup company thing has turned into quite the epic. One of my goals in starting up Bearded Brothers was to have a more flexible schedule, have more time for climbing, running and cycling; and right now I’m hardly doing any of those three, and I have a 30K planned for mid June. Just hoping I start making time to at run soon, otherwise it won’t happen. I’m sure once I actually register my motivation will go up.
This venture is way more difficult than I ever anticipated, but at the same time I’m loving every minute of it. Though, things can seem uncertain and stressful at times I’m confident our hard work will pay off. We just had a successful week at SxSw in Austin passing out samples at the Gowalla Airstream. For the full recap visit the Bearded Brothers blog.
So far the feedback on the bars has been amazing. We have had very little negative criticism and what we have had is really just personal preference. It has always been my dream to own my own business, but I have always been fearful of starting one up; and now I really know why. It’s a scary endeavor that is very trying and time consuming. I still remain optimistic though that once the company is running more smoothly we will be able to hire people to do the grunt work, thus freeing me up to spend more time doing the things I love, as well as with my wife.
Starting your own business can be very rewarding, but perhaps the most rewarding part is loving your job. It’s such a joy to look forward to starting every day. And, now that SxSw is over we are able to focus on making our product and getting it into stores. The networking part is what I live for and thrive on. I love talking to people, telling them about our bars and educating them about the ingredients, such as: maca, cacao, and yacon syrup. Not only do I get to be around people, I am able to talk about things I am passionate about.
Hanging out at SxSw Interactive was also very inspiring. I was able to meet quite a few interesting people that are totally rocking at what they do. I plan on doing the same with Bearded Brothers. Chris and I are both very excited about the company. I’m also excited about the possibility of starting a new blog, where I plan on posting several days a week. The blog posts will be short with a focus on health, nutrition and outdoor activities. I have decided that Organic Climber just doesn’t truly define what I normally blog about.
I haven’t decided what the new blog will be called yet, but Organic Climber will still be around, but will be mostly for posting trip reports and other climbing/outdoor related topics. I hope to turn the new blog into an educational source for the healthy outdoor enthusiast.
I also wanted to leave you with a promotional code for Bearded Brothers. Just place an order on the site and get 20% off your entire order when you enter coupon code “organicbeard” at checkout, through March 31, 2011.
